October 31, 2011 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Centre Londynska 30, Prague 2
Admission free. The presentation will be held in English.

The presentation will cover Ed Tannenbaum´s career of thirty-five years of creating interactive artworks and dance performances utilizing new technologies.

His work represents the results of a childhood love of technology and a belief in promises of the future (some of which have yet to be realized), a training in art at Rhode Island School of Design, and an exploratory life of self teaching and interactions with engineers, scientists, and other artists. He has taken the seemingly abstract technologies of image processing and computer programming and made them accessible and playful, first for his own satisfaction, and luckily to the delight of others. The field of “playart“ is now a popular area of exploration for artists. Many are creating and using apps on mobile devices, and some of those will also be demonstrated.

For more information on Ed Tannenbaum and his work: www.et-arts.com

This event is organized by CIANT (www.ciant.cz) at the RESET PLATFORM (www.platforma-reset.cz) with the support of the City of Prague.

Season 2 of the TV show Fame has been released on DVD. I worked on “Blood, Sweat, and Circuits” episode 17 of that season, producing the live special effects. The script was written by Lee Curreri (the musician in the segment) and he loosely based the script on my live performance work with dancers. The guy at the computer is not me, but an actor on the show. He studied me when I was working, and mimicked my mannerisms for the part. Very embarrassing.

The best part of the experience was working with Debbi Allen. She studied tapes of my previous performances and worked with me to come up with a super condensed sequence for the TV audience in no time at all (which was the way TV series were done… fast, fast, fast). The work was performed live and in one take, but re-staged with the dancer (Gene Anthony Ray) with the video transferred to film and optically printed onto the projection screen on stage. They edited Fame on film at that time.

This was done in 1983. I found the segment on YouTube…
